Peter Berg’s BATTLESHIP doesn’t hit theaters until May of next year, but just in case you can’t get enough alien invasion melodrama, Universal has released a teaser for the flick to sate your appetite. To my eyes, it looks like TRANSFORMERS (giant transforming spacecraft) meets ARMAGEDDON (Devil-may-care rogue falls in love with his tough boss’s daughter) meets BATTLE: LA (again, giant transforming spacecrafts). That’s not to say it doesn’t look kinda cool, but let’s face it: Right now, this resembles like a dozen movies we’re already familiar with.
BATTLESHIP sports a decent cast, including Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgård, Brooklyn Decker, Rihanna, Joel William Gonzales, Tom Arnold, Hamish Linklater and Liam Neeson, who can play a gruff, take-no-shit character like this in his sleep.
While this detialed plot is unknown, we know the action will pit a small fleet of naval ships against an alien force intent on enriching Earth’s valuable assets to ensure their survival. Actually, that’s all you really need to know.
