Universal moves up Oblivion, sets date for Jurassic Park 3D re-release

Got a little release info to share with you today...

You know that epic sci-fi thriller OBLIVION, starring Tom Cruise and a whole bevy of female lookers? Yeah well Universal sees fit to expedite the film's release from the dead of summer to the dead of spring next year.

Originally slated to drop July 10, 2013...OBLIVION will now hit theaters April 26, 2013. The motive is simple...the film will be ready earlier than expected.

The untitled thriller centers on a battle-damaged soldier who, assigned to a desolate planet after a court-martial, patrols the bleak landscape in an effort to destroy the last vestiges of a primitive alien race. When a mysterious traveler arrives unexpectedly, their lives become inextricably linked as they are forced to question everything they know about this world and themselves.

Cruise will play the soldier who's stuck alone on the planet, repairing the drones that patrol and destroy a savage alien life form. He encounters a beautiful woman who crashes in a craft, and their experience together forces him to question his world view.

Shifting gears a bit, Universal will also re-release Steven Spielberg's JURASSIC PARK - fully converted to 3D - into theaters on July 19, 2013. The flick is being dubbed, get this, JURASSIC PARK IN 3D.

While I don't really want to get started on how irksome these lame-ass 3D re-releases are, we can focus on how this likely will serve as a sounding board for a possible JURASSIC PARK 4. If people come out in droves to see JURASSIC PARK IN 3D, you can bet your ass a reboot, 4th installment, remake or whatever will be put into production ASAP. Or at least after they release JURASSIC PARK 2 and 3 in 3D.

So...snap a mental photo...OBLIVION comes out April 26, 2013. JURASSIC PARK IN 3D comes out July 19, 2013.
