Human Centipede’s Ashlynn Yennie doubtful to return for part 3

Warning, kiddies, there are some major series spoilers ahead. Proceed with caution, schmoes who enter.

HUMAN CENTIPEDE really shook the pillars of extreme horror fan heaven when it first hit the scene, and the avant-garde follow-up HUMAN CENTIPEDE didn’t exactly turn fans away, either (well, it did, but that was sort of the point). Franchise auteur Tom Six is currently gearing up to cap off his trilogy of ass-to-mouth terror with HUMAN CENTIPEDE 3: FINAL SEQUENCE. Though Six announced his intention to wrap up the open ended storylines established in the first two films, series stalwart Ashlynn Yennie (pictured below) has announced she won’t be involved in the third entry.

When asked if she would be returning, Yennie responded, “I don’t think so. It was supposed to start shooting in April, but unfortunate things have happened with Dieter and whatnot [re: part 3’s dearth of legal issues between actor Dieter Laser and director Tom Six]… I saw Laurence [Henry, the second film’s villain]… he said they were planning to start shooting this fall. I don’t know what they are planning with this. I’ve said to Tom Six – who I would work with any time – ‘You’ve killed me as a character. Then you brought me back as myself and you killed me again. I don’t think I could survive another Centipede!’ I would have to be, like, the villain or something. Honestly, I’ve had enough Centipede for my lifetime.”

I can get behind that last statement. Seriously, what kind of world are we living in when there will inevitably exist a HUMAN CENTIPEDE trilogy? The extreme body horror of the first film engaged fans on a visceral level and part two found its audience, but doesn’t Tom Six know the sequel law of diminishing quality will inevitably kick in? I’d be much more interested if the guy managed to produce an original feature during the legal downtime of HUMAN CENTIPEDE 3. Preferably one with less scatological plot devices, but I’m old fashioned that way.
