I AM NUMBER FOUR really stunk up the box office a few months ago, as you’ll no doubt remember. Or maybe you won’t: The movie came in boasting a successful book series, an impressive behind-the-camera pedigree (director D.J. Caruso, producers Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay) and a cast full of up-and-comers (headlined by the supposed next “it” guy Alex Pettyfer), but opened to a so-so $19 million on its way to a meager $53 million on the domestic front. Not numbers that scream “franchise”, as the studio had probably hoped. Hence, it’s pretty unlikely we’ll be seeing I AM NUMBER FIVE – or whatever a potential follow-up would be called – in our lifetimes.
But the movie still has its home video release to looks forward to, where it might just be able to turn a profit. (It cost a reported $60 million, not including print and ad money.) The flick hits on MAY 24th in a DVD/Blu-ray combo pack which includes, as the press release tells it, six “jaw-dropping” deleted scenes. Since most people haven’t witnessed any scenes from this movie, I wonder how jaw-dropping they can actually be…
The featurettes:
DVD:
“Becoming Number 6” Featurette
Bloopers
Blu-ray:
Everything on the DVD plus…
6 Deleted Scenes with Introductions by Director D.J. Caruso
“Strangers in Paradise” (Extended)
“Sam’s Mom”
“Worth Mentioning”
“Power Prank”
“Trying to Connect”
“Extended Warsaw Basement”
I AM NUMBER FOUR hits Movie Download and On-Demand on MAY 24th as well, so if you want to see this flick but didn’t feel compelled to hit it up in the theater, you’re going to have every opportunity later next month. To pre-order the combo pack, click it HERE.
