Amazon Studios is giving the romantic comedy a comeback with the release of I Want You Back, starring Charlie Day, Jenny Slate, Gina Rodriguez, Scott Eastwood, Manny Jacinto, Mason Gooding, and Clark Backo. The film rides on the chemistry of its fantastic ensemble cast and today we’re speaking with two of them: Charlie Day and Jenny Slate.
In the film, Charlie Day and Jenny Slate play Peter and Emma, two thirty-somethings who have each been left by their respective partners. Unwilling to admit that their relationships are over and fearing that they will be forever alone, the two decide to team up to win their exes back by destroying their new relationships.
Charlie Day and Jenny Slate demonstrate the same winning chemistry from the film in this interview. They touch on the screenplay by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, which was so good that they really didn’t have to spice anything up with improv. It was all there on the page. Charlie Day touches on the “bromance” chemistry he has with Scott Eastwood in the film and I ask both Charlie and Jenny if it’s ever ok to try to win your ex back. My wording of the question leads to an unintentionally funny moment and they have a good time with it.
