Exclusive Interview: Guillermo del Toro and Andy Muschietti talk Mama

JoBloJoBlo

On January 18th, Guillermo del Toro presents MAMA, a supernatural thriller that tells the haunting tale of two little girls who disappeared into the woods the day that their parents were killed. When they are rescued years later and begin a new life, they find that someone or something still wants to come tuck them in at night.

Guillermo del Toro solidified as a movie geek god long ago; not simply for the imaginative worlds he creates, but for his profane, enthusiastic, completely unpretentious disposition. Listen to del Toro talk for any 5-minute span and you’re likely to hear about a dozen F-bombs dropped, but he also emits such genuine love and gratitude for the craft he toils at, it’s tough not to completely love the man. It was my pleasure to finally get to meet del Toro, along with newbie director Andy Muschietti, to speak about their spooky thriller MAMA, which del Toro helped bring to life after seeing Muschietti’s impressive short film.

My favorite part might be when del Toro equates himself to a gynecologist…
