Pressure is the latest from Hotel Mumbai director Anthony Maras. And my goodness, is it a solid follow-up. The historical drama presents the story of meteorologist James Stagg during the Second World War. Andrew Scott portrays Stagg, with Brendan Fraser creating a rich take on Dwight ‘Ike’ Eisenhower. It tells the story of the intense pressure (perfect title) 72 hours before D-Day. The impressive feature is based on co-screenwriter David Haig’s very own stage play.
Recently, I sat down with Brendan Fraser, Kerry Condon, and filmmaker Anthony Maras. It was wonderful to speak with Mr. Maras. The filmmaker discussed adapting the stage play, casting, and bringing authenticity to this thrilling tale. As for Kerry Condon, I’ve become an admirer of her incredible work. It was The Banshees of Inisherin that made me an instant fan. She is also one of the standouts here. She talked about taking on the role of Kay Summersby and working with such an impressive cast.
And finally, I spoke with Brendan Fraser. I absolutely love speaking to this incredibly kind actor. Having spoken to him before, I was excited to hear his take on portraying such a character as Eisenhower. After a brief recap of his impressive career, including an upcoming Mummy sequel, we jumped into Pressure. In fact, I was scheduled for a much shorter time, but the man had a lot to say about the film, and that was after one question regarding taking on the character.
Pressure is fantastic. It’s a sharply written and perfectly cast feature worth experiencing. Check it out in theatres on May 29th (read our review).
