Invaluable: The True Story of an Epic Artist documentary about Evil Dead FX artist comes to Blu-ray

The documentary Invaluable: The True Story of an Epic Artist, about The Evil Dead FX artist Tom Sullivan, is coming to Blu-ray

If you’re a die hard fan of the Evil Dead franchise, I highly recommend checking out the documentary Invaluable: The True Story of an Epic Artist, which digs into the life, times, and art of The Evil Dead FX artist Tom Sullivan. And if you’re interested in watching it, you’ll soon be able to pick it up on Blu-ray! Synapse Films has announced that they’ll be giving Invaluable: The True Story of an Epic Artist a Blu-ray release on August 1st. Copies can be pre-ordered on Amazon.

Directed by Ryan Meade, this feature-length documentary includes a unique look back at the making of THE EVIL DEAD. Using multiple film/video formats and new interviews, Meade creates an emotional tapestry and vibrant look at one of the key figures in making one of the greatest horror franchises of all time. Featuring brand-new interviews with the cast and crew of THE EVIL DEAD, including Bruce Campbell, Ted Raimi, Josh Becker, Danny Hicks, Hal Delrich, Ellen Sandweiss, Betsy Baker, and Theresa Tilly.

In case you weren’t aware, Sullivan first met director Sam Raimi, star Bruce Campbell, and producer Rob Tapert while they were all in college. The trio brought Sullivan on board as they began to make their little horror film THE EVIL DEAD. And he created some awesome effects for them.

Invaluable: The True Story of an Epic Artist comes to Blu-ray with the following special features: OTHER MEN’S CAREERS – a bonus documentary about the life of filmmaker Josh Becker; a vintage Tom Sullivan “In the Spotlight” interview (1989); an unedited interview with Tim Philo, cinematographer of THE EVIL DEAD; extended interview segments with Josh Becker; INVALUABLE promotional trailers; two Ryan Meade short films: BONG FLY & COSMOS LOCOS; BONG FLY behind-the-scenes; and SNAP SHOTS – a motion stills gallery

As far as I’m concerned, The Evil Dead had one of the most fascinating “making of” stories of all time, and Sullivan was an important part of the process. Having crossed paths with him on several occasions at the Cinema Wasteland convention, I can also confirm that he’s a really cool guy. So I’m glad Meade made Invaluable: The True Story of an Epic Artist about him, and that Synapse Films is bringing it to Blu-ray.
