It Follows director’s Under the Silver Lake pushed back to April

Back in early June, A24 delayed the release of IT FOLLOWS director's neo-noir comedy thriller UNDER THE SILVER LAKE just three weeks before it was supposed to reach theatres. The movie had been scheduled for release on June 22, but got pushed back until December 7. At the time, I speculated that the distributor might think it had awards season potential, but after reading our own Chris Bumbray's 4/10 review, which calls UNDER THE SILVER LAKE "one of the biggest auteur-driven disasters in recent memory", I'm guessing that potential isn't really there.

A24 must agree, because they just pushed the film back again, this time to the post-awards season date of April 19, 2019.

UNDER THE SILVER LAKE stars Andrew Garfield and Riley Keough in the story of

Sam (Garfield), a disenchanted 33-year-old who discovers a mysterious woman, Sarah (Keough), frolicking in his apartment’s swimming pool. When she vanishes, Sam embarks on a surreal quest across Los Angeles to decode the secret behind her disappearance, leading him into the murkiest depths of mystery, scandal, and conspiracy in the City of Angels.

The film has been referred to as a "dazzling and delirious fever dream" and features scenarios involving "mysterious dog killers, aspiring actors, glitter-pop groups (including 'Jesus and the Brides of Dracula'), nightlife personalities, It girls, memorabilia hoarders, masked seductresses, homeless gurus, reclusive songwriters, sex workers, wealthy socialites, topless neighbors, and the shadowy billionaires floating above (and underneath) it all"

I'm still curious about UNDER THE SILVER LAKE and look forward to checking it out when it's released, but my expectations are much lower than they once were.
