Jay Baruchel set to make directorial debut with Goon: Last of the Enforcers

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Despite being Canadian, I've shown little interest in following our national pastime; I know, I'm sorry. I am however, always interested in films about hockey; figure that one out. It looks as though I've got a new hockey film to look forward to as, per THR, Jay Baruchel is set to make his directorial debut with a sequel to 2011's GOON. Baruchel will actually be performing triple duty on GOON: LAST OF THE ENFORCERS; in addition to directing, he'll also be reprising his role from the first film as well as co-writing the sequel along with Jesse Chabot.

GOON: LAST OF THE ENFORCERS will of course see Seann William Scott returning to his role as hockey enforcer Doug “the Thug” Glatt "in a story that sees his team, the Halifax Highlanders, reunite with a host of new players during a pro lockout." Production on the film is set to get underway in Toronto next month.

While GOON didn't exactly find itself a huge audience upon release, its cult status has only grown over the years. If they can match and expand on what they did in the first film, I feel hopeful that GOON: LAST OF THE ENFORCERS will get the reception the first one deserved. Plus, anytime Seann William Scott can ditch his "Stifler" schtick is a good thing.
