Jeffrey Dahmer costumes banned from eBay

There will be one less serial killer on the loose this Halloween, as eBay has officially banned any and all Jeffrey Dahmer costumes.

In a statement to BuzzFeed News, the bidding behemoth said, “These items are prohibited for sale on our site and we are removing them.” The related costumes reportedly include an orange jumpsuit and an Evan Peters mask. Peters, of course, played Dahmer in Netflix’s wildly successful limited series, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. Apparently you would have to provide your own white t-shirt soaked in cheap beer.

Worst case, if you really want to go as Jeffrey Dahmer for Halloween, you could search for one of those generic ripoff costumes, like Juice Demon (standing in for Beetlejuice) and Creepy Husband (in for Gomez Addams). But what would Dahmer’s be called? Bespectacled Creep? Wisconsin Weirdo?

As of publication, the top result of a “Jeffrey Dahmer costume” search is a Dahmer trading card, which would actually make a pretty cool trick-or-treat goodie bag addition.

The Jeffrey Dahmer costume joins a rather appropriate list of other items banned from eBay, including weapons, alcohol and human body parts, all of which Dahmer was quite fond of–usually at the same time!

This move by eBay is just the latest controversy surrounding Dahmer, most notably with its alleged disregard of victims and their families. One relative of an individual depicted in the series stated, “When they say they’re doing this ‘with respect to the victims’ or ‘honoring the dignity of the families’, no one contacts them. My cousins wake up every few months at this point with a bunch of calls and messages and they know there’s another Dahmer show. It’s cruel.”

What do you think about eBay’s decision? Is it a smart move or a futile attempt? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
