Johnny Depp will chill you to the bone in the first trailer for Black Mass

Just yesterday we got our first official image of Johnny Depp as Whitey Bulger in BLACK MASS. A lot of comments said it just looked like Depp with a bald cap on and nothing more special than that. To those people I say take a look at this new teaser for Scott Cooper‘s film and tell me that Depp doesn’t chill you to the bone.

And here is the official synopsis for the film.

In 1970s South Boston, FBI Agent John Connolly (Joel Edgerton) persuades Irish mobster James “Whitey” Bulger (Johnny Depp) to collaborate with the FBI and eliminate a common enemy: the Italian mob. The drama tells the story of this unholy alliance, which spiraled out of control, allowing Whitey to evade law enforcement, consolidate power, and become one of the most ruthless and powerful gangsters in Boston history.

I sense a little bit of Al Pacino and a hell of a lot of Christopher Walken in this performance and that is enough to tell me this is going to be something special. Plus, the cast for this movie is pretty amazing on it’s own. Alongside Johnny Depp, BLACK MASS also stars Joel Edgerton, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jesse Plemons, Kevin Bacon, Rory Cochrane, David Harbour, Dakota Johnson, , Julianne Nicholson, James Russo, Adam Scott, Corey Stoll, Juno Temple, W. Earl Brown, Bill Camp, Brad Carter, and Jeremy Strong. If this scene is just a tease of what the rest of the film is like, we may have found a contender for one of the best movies of the year.

BLACK MASS opens on September 18th.
