The sequel to the 2015 blockbuster JURASSIC WORLD, which is also, of course, a sequel to the three JURASSIC PARK films, appears to be shaping up quite nicely. It's got THE ORPHANAGE director J.A. Bayona at the helm; everyone is saying it's going to be "darker", "scarier", and "more suspenseful" than WORLD; and it's got a great cast – Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Daniella Pineda, Toby Jones, Rafe Spall, Justice Smith, Ted Levine, James Cromwell, Geraldine Chaplin, Brooke Norbury, maybe B.D. Wong, and just hours ago it was announced that Jeff Goldblum will be reprising the role of fan favorite PARK character Dr. Ian Malcolm, who we haven't seen since the first sequel, THE LOST WORLD, back in 1997.
We still don't know any plot details about the screenplay written by Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly, but JURASSIC WORLD 2 (not the official title) is sounding good so far.
Now comes word that this film might be giving us some dinosaur action of a sort we've never seen before in this franchise: an underwater sequence.
This information comes from actor Kevin Layne, who told Management in Stage and Film that he auditioned for two different roles in the film and ended up being cast as a
‘submarine pilot’, which was the role I wanted as it is quite an epic scene. So I should have a nice cinematic moment on screen in a massive studio film.
Filming starts in May. Hopefully I’ll be in one of their amazing contraptions, pretending that there’s dinosaurs around me. I’ve never worked with CGI before so it’s fun and challenging."
Of course, there is a chance that Layne's "submarine pilot" could be running into dinosaurs on dry land, but it seems much more likely that he'll be seeing them while on the job underwater.
The thought of seeing some kind of submarine / dinosaur altercation in JURASSIC WORLD 2 is quite appealing to me. We'll see if there is such a sequence when the film is released on June 22, 2018.
