Kevin Feige says that the MCU will be quite different after Infinity War

Kevin Feige Avengers: Infinity War Phase Four

As the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been inching towards a confrontation with Thanos (Josh Brolin) since Phase One, it's no surprise to hear that the landscape of the MCU will be changed considerably following the release of AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR and its sequel. Including the soon-to-be-released GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2, there are still eight films to go before we reach the end of Phase Three, but Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently told Collider that what comes after may not necessarily be Phase Four, but something new altogether.

Certainly as we get to Infinity War there is a sense of a climax if not a conclusion to, by the time we’re at untitled Avengers 4, the 22 movies that will have encompassed the first three phases of the MCU. And what happens after that will be very different. I don’t know if it’s Phase 4, it might be a new thing. We have an idea [of what the MCU looks like post-Infinity War], and it’s gonna be very, very different.

Although Kevin Feige and company have an idea of what the post-INFINITY WAR world will look like, he also says that they're "not actively discussing anything past [the UNTITLED AVENGERS SEQUEL]" at the moment. Aside from dating a sequel to SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING and James Gunn signing on to write and direct GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3, Feige says that the next eight movies are more than enough to take up their time.

The third AVENGERS sequel isn't scheduled to debut until 2019, so we still have a bit of a wait ahead of us. As for what the MCU will look like once Phase Three wraps up, I haven't the foggiest, but I've got to believe that not everyone will be making it out of INFINITY WAR in one piece. Kevin Feige previously teased that the titles of the movies which will follow Phase Three are spoilers, which either means that they could refer to different characters taking on the mantle of famous heroes or reveal that they survive the events of INFINITY WAR. Either way, I'm excited to see what the future will bring. The next MCU flick, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2, is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2017.

What are you hoping to see in a post-INFINITY WAR world?
