Kingsman 2 will take the franchise in unpredictable emotional directions

Kingsman The Golden Circle

Following up on the surprisingly entertaining twists and turns of KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE will be no small task, but KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE co-writer Jane Goldman is confident that the upcoming sequel will give us more of what we want, all while remaining fresh, interesting, and unpredictable. Jane Goldman recently chatted with Den of Geek, where she said that the KINGSMAN franchise will "surprising and consistently go in directions you didn't expect, both in terms of the characters’ emotional journeys and in terms of the kind of outrageous, absurd, or surprising kind of action that you see." Goldman continued:

The main thing is we want to continue to be unpredictable. So the story goes through some very unpredictable emotional directions, and also you have the moments of absurdity that I hope will leave audiences surprised and delighted. It's more outrageous than the first one, but it's certainly not about ‘Oh, we have to be more gory, or more intense.’ There are some amazing action sequences that hopefully they'll be surprising in ways audiences weren't expecting to be surprised.

I wasn't entirely certain as to what I'd be in for with Matthew Vaughn's first KINGSMAN flick, but it seems to get more enjoyable each and every time I watch it. This leaves KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE with some big shoes to fill, but I'm hopeful that the upcoming sequel will be able to live up to its predecessor, and perhaps even surpass it. I should really rein in my hype. It's probably a safe bet to say that THE GOLDEN CIRCLE will do well at the box-office, and Jane Goldman says that there's "definitely been conversation[s]" about another sequel. Yes please.

Would anyone like to venture a guess as to what some of these "unpredictable" moments will be? Will Harry Hart (Colin Firth) become a robot? Maybe Merlin (Mark Strong) gets a cellphone? Or, now that I think about it, has Eggsy (Taron Egerton) ever owned a bear?

The official synopsis for KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE:

“Kingsman: The Secret Service” introduced the world to Kingsman – an independent, international intelligence agency operating at the highest level of discretion, whose ultimate goal is to keep the world safe. In “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” our heroes face a new challenge. When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, their journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organization in the US called Statesman, dating back to the day they were both founded. In a new adventure that tests their agents’ strength and wits to the limit, these two elite secret organizations band together to defeat a ruthless common enemy, in order to save the world, something that’s becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy…

KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE will hit theaters on September 22nd.
