Kristen Bell would pay to make a Veronica Mars movie

I enjoyed the teen sleuth show “Veronica Mars” when it was on a few years back, but does it still have enough of a fanbase to justify a feature film?

One of the biggest fans would seem to be the spunky, adorable star herself, Kristen Bell. And she strongly believes a VERONICA MARS movie deserves to be made, to the point where she’d be willing to throw in some of her own cold cash to make it happen (with creator Rob Thomas, obviously), but it comes down to the studio letting her.

As the FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL co-star tells THR, “It’s a business and the sad truth is that … they’re not going to relinquish the rights to something and let us do it. We really have to do it with [Warner Bros.] because they own it.”

At this point, Warner Bros. can make it but like any studio they have research that tells them whether or not they’ll make their money back,” Bell said. “And that’s what we’ve been told: That it’s just not there. So my duty, because I wanted this movie made from the minute our show got canceled, is to a) do it before I’m 40; and b) to prove to Warner Bros. that there is an audience. You already have 3 million who watched it every week hardcore fans that will see it — you can only build from there.”

Bell says she’d even be willing to do it as a web series if the opportunity arose, but for now she’s pushing for feature (which she’d obviously rather make than another crummy romcom).
