Lodger in theaters

Last Updated on July 26, 2021

A little while back, my man, Eric, pointed you all in the direction of the new trailer for the new update of Hitchcock’s THE LODGER. Today, I just learned that although the psychological indie already has a DVD release date (February 10, 2009), Sony’s Stage 6 Films is actually allowing for an earlier theatrical release. After checking out the trailer for myself, I can see why. It seems like one fun, twisted ride. Check out the plot:

A grizzled detective is on the trail of a ruthless killer intent on slaughtering prostitutes along West Hollywood’s Sunset Strip. It appears that the murderer’s grisly methods are identical to that of London’s infamous 19th century psychopath Jack the Ripper, a relentless, serial killer who was never caught by police. To make matters worse, the detective soon notices the parallels between the crimes.

It’s actually not as corny as it may sound. Plus, it’s boasting a fairly high pedigree in the casting department: Alfred Molina, Simon Baker, Shane West, Donal Logue, Philip Baker Hall, Rachel Leigh Cook (below), and Hope Davis. THE LODGER, written and directed by David Ondaatje, opens in New York and Los Angeles on January 23rd and I wish it luck.
