I wasn't interested in ESCAPE ROOM when it was coming out earlier this year, but I have to admit that when I gave the movie a chance and watched it on DVD I actually ended up enjoying it.

Director Adam Robitel is now preparing to start filming a sequel that we'll go ahead and call ESCAPE ROOM 2, and while doing press for his latest movie, the Blumhouse production PREY, ESCAPE ROOM cast member Logan Miller confirmed that he and co-star Taylor Russell are coming back for the follow-up.

That's good to hear, as it would have been very disappointing if Miller and Russell weren't in ESCAPE ROOM 2. The first movie ended with them stepping through the door that was left wide open for the sequel.

Miller told Flickering Myth,

I am heading back into that room in a month. We are in pre-production on that right now. We will be diving back in and hopefully surviving yet again. For what I know, I don’t actually know much, but Taylor [Russell] and I will be coming back and we have a whole new colorful cast of characters. Adam [Robitel] is coming back to direct as well. So yeah, I think the adventure is just gonna be double the pain, I’m sure."

Written by Bragi Schut and Maria Melnik, the first ESCAPE ROOM was about what happens when

an intriguing invitation brings six strangers together. Initially, they think they have gathered for a highly immersive escape room, but they soon make the sickening discovery that they are pawns in a sadistic game of life and death. Together, they move from one terrifying scenario to the next as they find clues and solve puzzles. But the players soon learn that exposing their darkest secrets may hold the key to survive.

Schut has written the screenplay for ESCAPE ROOM 2, which is scheduled to reach theatres on August 24, 2020.
