Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Marketed as a semi-sequel to George A. Romero's DAWN OF THE DEAD, director Lucio Fulci's ZOMBIE aka ZOMBI 2 is a must-see for horror fans. And today we have word that the flick is headed to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray soon via Blue Underground. No release date has been set yet, but we will make sure to keep up to date on the release and pass along updates as we hear them.

The film centers on

a group of vacationing tourists who travels to an island where they find a doctor who is attempting to cure a condition that reanimates the dead. Things quickly get out of control as undead Spanish conquistadors crawl from their graves hungry for human flesh.

Infamous for sequences that include a nauseatingly graphic close-up of a woman's eye being impaled by a shard of wood and a zombie fighting a Great White shark, ZOMBIE is – again – a must-see. That said, and like it really matters, the film sports a weak 40% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: "Zombie is an absurdly graphic zombie movie legendary for some gory scenes and nothing in between."

ZOMBIE was directed by Lucio Fulci (THE BEYOND) from a screenplay written by Elisa Briganti and Dardano Sacchetti. Ugo Tucci and Fabrizio De Angelis produced and it starred Tisa Farrow, Ian McCulloch, Richard Johnson, Al Cliver, Auretta Gay, Stefania D'Amario, and Olga Karlatos.
