Lupita Nyong’o and Kristen Stewart might be your new Charlie’s Angels!

CHARLIE’S ANGELS is one of those things that you’d think would be hard to mess up. I mean, who wouldn’t want to watch a trio of awesome chicks using kung-fu and guns to beat up bad guys and save the day? But every iteration has been overly campy and usually lacking at being either empowering or action-packed. Though, having said all that, I do have a soft spot for the – still not great, but at least fun – 2000 film starring Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu, and Cameron Diaz.

Now the third (fourth? fifth?) reboot will be coming to theaters, courtesy of director Elizabeth Banks (whose other directing credit is PITCH PERFECT 2), following the disastrous 2011 TV reboot. So now the question is: who’s going to play Charlie’s titular Angels?

Now no deals have been struck, but rumor has it that big names like Lupita Nyong’o and Kristen Stewart are in the running, which honestly I wouldn’t have a problem with either getting roles. Yes, even Stewart, who is stigmatized in a large portion of movie fandom due to her role as Bella from the TWILIGHT films, though who’s found great success in a lot of indie fare since then. And Nyong’o I don’t think has had a bad role yet. However, I’m most happy with having a female director behind the camera, as the premise of CHARLIE’S ANGELS can be completely objectifying in the wrong hands. I mean, we’ve never seen Banks do an action film before, but I imagine she’ll do fine.

Meanwhile the latest CHARLIE’S ANGELS reboot will strike a pose June 7th, 2019.
