Mamoudou Athie lands a lead role in Jurassic World 3

The third film in the JURASSIC WORLD branch of the JURASSIC PARK franchise (and the sixth movie of the JURASSIC series overall) is set to star Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum. All of whom already have more than one JURASSIC credit on their filmography.

Now the film has just added someone to the cast who will be making their JURASSIC debut here. Mamoudou Athie has signed on to play what is being described as "a lead role" in JURASSIC WORLD 3.

I'll admit, I have just now learned this actor's name, but I have seen him in a movie before and he has been building a solid career for himself over the last few years. Athie played Grandmaster Flash on eight episodes of the short-lived Netflix series The Get Down, appeared with Tom Hanks and Emma Watson in the sci-fi thriller THE CIRCLE, with Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson in the quirky Netflix release UNICORN STORE, was in Jason Reitman's THE FRONT RUNNER, and co-stars with Elizabeth Olsen in the Facebook series Sorry for Your Loss. In a few months he'll be seen on the big screen in the creature feature UNDERWATER.

As for which one of those I've seen, it was UNICORN STORE. I looked Athie's credits up and was reminded, "Oh, yeah! Virgil from UNICORN STORE!" Now I'll always remember the name Mamoudou Athie.

JURASSIC WORLD director Colin Trevorrow is set to direct JURASSIC WORLD 3 from a screenplay he's writing with Emily Carmichael, based on a story he crafted with Derek Connolly. Trevorrow and Connolly wrote both JURASSIC WORLD and JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM together.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it's understood that the film will be dealing with the fact that the end of FALLEN KINGDOM allowed dinosaurs to escape into the California countryside. Trevorrow recently directed a short film called BATTLE AT BIG ROCK that shows humans and dinosaurs crossing paths sometime between the events of FALLEN KINGDOM and JURASSIC WORLD 3.

JURASSIC WORLD 3 is heading toward a June 11, 2021 theatrical release.
