It was announced nearly a year ago that Mary Elizabeth Winstead had joined the cast of Ahsoka, the upcoming live-action Star Wars series featuring Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano. At the time, it wasn’t clear who she would be playing in the series, but rumours from Bespin Bulletin have now pointed to Mary Elizabeth Winstead playing Hera Syndulla, the Rebel leader who first appeared in Star Wars: Rebels.

A brief glimpse of Hera Syndulla was included in the Ahsoka teaser screened during Star Wars Celebration, which certainly got fans excited. As Ahsoka will also include appearances Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) and Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), the series will be something of a Star Wars: Rebels reunion if Mary Elizabeth Winstead really is playing Hera Syndulla.

We don’t know much about Ahsoka at the moment, but it’s said that the series will involve the former Jedi travelling from one end of the galaxy to another in search of Grand Admiral Thrawn. During Ahsoka’s first live-action appearance in The Mandalorian, she questioned Magistrate Morgan Elsbeth regarding the whereabouts of Thrawn. Ahsoka will also see Hayden Christensen returning as Anakin Skywalker, which will be the second time he’s returned for a Star Wars series after Obi-Wan Kenobi. Ray Stevenson has also signed to play a mystery villain, who reportedly won’t be Thrawn, and Ivanna Sakhno is also part of the cast in an unknown role.

Dave Filoni, who co-created the series with Jon Favrea, has previously said, “Ahsoka is a continuous story. It is definitely driving toward a goal, in my mind, as opposed to being little singular adventures. That’s what I want the character to be doing, and I think that’s what fans want now. They have such a relationship with her. I’ve only recently started to understand that all those kids that watched Clone Wars are now a lot older—they’re very excited about all the things they grew up with, as they should be.Ahsoka doesn’t have an official release date yet, but it will debut on Disney+ in 2023.
