There must be something in the water. On top of the speculation that there may be a remake of THE EXORCIST (gag me with pea soup, am I right?), today a Hollywood Reporter interview with producers Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald revealed that a MEN IN BLACK reboot is in the works.
From the interview:
You produced Men in Black. Has there been talk of reviving that franchise with the new Sony regime?
sponsored contentPARKES We're in the middle of it. It's very active.
Is Will Smith going to be part of it?
PARKES Most likely no.
MACDONALD It will be reinvented as a trilogy.
MEN IN BLACK was released in 1997 so this reboot wouldn't be coming as hot on the heels of the property as, say, the CABIN FEVER remake, but that's still a hyperspeed turnaround. Not to mention that MEN IN BLACK 3 only came out a scant three years ago. We're still at the point where more sequels can be pumped out of the franchise if anybody cares. A reboot at this stage (especially a trilogy) would only complicate things and crash the franchise into the ground quicker than you can say "Where's Will Smith?"
