Mercy Sparx comic adaptation described as the female Constantine

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

The Picture Company and Assemble Media are set to produce an adaptation of the Devil's Due comic book MERCY SPARX for MGM, with Nick Shafir writing the screenplay. Created by Josh Blaylock, the title character made her comic book debut in 2008. She is

a female demon sent from Hell to Earth on a mission, which she must complete while hiding among humans. On Earth, Mercy has an existential crisis and begins to see the gray area between good and evil. It forces her to choose her place within it and compromises her mission.

Here's the description on the Devil's Due website:

Meet Mercy Sparx – a devil girl living on Earth in both human and devil form. Did we mention she's working undercover for Heaven? She hunts down angels that have gone rogue whenever she's called in to work. But, in the meantime, Mercy's just drinking whiskey and chain smoking until she's assigned to take down an angel that has fallen.

The film adaptation is being described as the story of "a female CONSTANTINE".

MERCY SPARX is being produced by Jack Heller of Assemble and The Picture Company's Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona. Blaylock serves as executive producer with Assemble's Scott Veltri. Elishia Holmes and Sandino Moya-Smith are overseeing the project for MGM.

I've never read an issue of the comic book, but Mercy Sparx looks like a cool character. I'd definitely watch a movie about a devil girl fighting rogue angels.
