Midway trailer: Chaos reigns in explosive glimpse at Emmerich’s war movie

Director Roland Emmerich blew up the White House in INDEPENDENCE DAY, destroyed the planet in DAY AFTER TOMORROW and 2012 (two times!) and will now set aircraft carriers and hundreds of planes ablaze in the new movie MIDWAY. The first trailer for his treatment on the Battle of Midway is here, featuring all the chaos and fire you can expect from a director like Emmerich, as he delivers his explosive take on the key event that marked a turning point during World War II.

Emmerich isn’t often one for subtlety, so his movie looks less a searing, intense drama like DUNKIRK and more a wartime action flick with flashy dogfight sequences and lots of lots of explosions. The trailer teases from pretty chaotic action scenes with an all-star cast including Woody Harrelson, Luke Evans, Mandy Moore, Patrick Wilson, Ed Skrein, Luke Kleintank, Aaron Eckhart, Keean Johnson, Nick Jonas, Darren Criss and Dennis Quaid all caught right in the middle.

Here's the synopsis:

MIDWAY centers on the Battle of Midway, a clash between the American fleet and the Imperial Japanese Navy which marked a pivotal turning point in the Pacific Theater during WWII. The film, based on the real-life events of this heroic feat, tells the story of the leaders and soldiers who used their instincts, fortitude and bravery to overcome the odds.
