The first poster for CHAPPIE hit yesterday and given it's release in March, we knew a trailer wouldn't be too far off. Telling the story of a robot imbued with artificial intelligence who is stolen by two local gangsters, CHAPPIE looks to be somewhat of Neill Blomkamp's E.T., albeit with his usual style and flair. I'm not sure this trailer will dissuade folks from the SHORT CIRCUIT references but it's here none-the-less.

Check out some bad hairstyles:

DISTRICT 9 was a sleeper hit and while ELYSIUM makes me want to rip out the eyeballs of everyone in the room, Blomkamp is still a director I'll follow with great interest.  He's very good at creating a realistic lived-in universe for his films, so much so that they all seem as if they could exist within the same universe.  I'm not sure whether that's a good or bad thing, but I enjoy his "dirty aesthetic", if you will.  CHAPPIE carries on that tradition and aside from distractingly bad hairstyles, it looks like this picture should have a strong emotional core that ELYSIUM was sorely lacking.

CHAPPIE will be released on March 6, 2015.
