Actor Henry Golding offers first look at Snake Eyes from the upcoming film

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Henry Golding is one of those actors that I suspect you're going to hear a lot of in the coming years. 2018 marked a huge turning point for the Malaysian and British actor. He starred in two of the most critically acclaimed films of the year – CRAZY RICH ASIANS and A SIMPLE FAVOR. In addition, he was just featured in Guy Ritchie's crime comedy THE GENTLEMEN where he played the gangster Dry Eye. There's even been rumors of Golding taking the mantle of James Bond from Daniel Craig, who will be exiting the part with April's NO TIME TO DIE.

One particular film that has every G.I. Joe fan interested is the upcoming movie SNAKE EYES, directed by Robert Schwentke. The film will serve as an origin story for the character, a hand-to-hand combat specialist and sword wielder, with Golding taking on the lead role. Principal photography began back in October but the production only just recently shifted to Japan. In a magnanimous gesture unlike his character, Golding decided to share a behind the scenes first look at the character of Snake Eyes on his Instagram account. Well, sort of:

You know most people like to get presents on their birthday, however Golding felt it was better to give rather than receive. Although, to be fair the present in question is akin to a new pair of socks than say a PS4. Although I guess this picture makes a weird kind of sense considering Snake Eyes rarely shows his face. It will be interesting to see how close to the bone this origin story portrays the G.I. Joe commando. His backstory involves a helicopter crash that left his face severely disfigured and unable to speak. Considering Henry Golding is quite an attractive man and the leading character in SNAKE EYES, I doubt very highly that we won't see his face or hear him talk.

SNAKE EYES starring Henry Golding, Andrew Koji, Iko Uwais, Ursula Corbero, and Samara Weaving begins its mission in theaters October 23, 2020.
