Creed set to become the new Rocky with multiple sequels planned

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Everyone seems to be extremely high on CREED. Audiences are looking forward to its release in a few short weeks a great deal. Warner Bros. is reportedly very pleased with the final result Ryan Coogler has turned out, and those who have had an opportunity to see it rather early have been said to be walking away excited by what they saw. What does that mean for the film and its standing at Warner Bros.?

Why, sequels, of course.

Now, before I put the cart before the horse, let's all remember that this is show business, so when push comes to shove, it's all about the Benjamins. If a film rakes in lots of the almighty dollar at the box office, then there is a greater chance of follow-ups taking shape. Underperform and everyone is onto something else.

But, if CREED lives up to the expectations a lot of people are envisioning for it, then plans for a CREED II will be a go… and there supposedly is a sequel in the planning stages in the event that moment arrives. But that's not all… There may be a third film in the blueprint as well. That's what producer Irwin Winkler reluctantly gave up to Roger Friedman in recent days.

Warner Bros. would love to have another boxing series on their hands, given the popularity the ROCKY franchise had at one time… and this couldn't shape up to be a more perfect passing of the torch from Sylvester Stallone's original to Michael B. Jordan's future. We'll have to see what direction CREED takes in order to get a better idea of where any potential sequels could lead… but, as long as he's not fighting a next-gen Russian for revenge on Christmas Day in the future (I love ROCKY IV, but we've been down that road already) or some Mr. T rip-off, I think we'll be okay.

CREED punches its way into theaters on November 25.
