Disney and Maker Studios to produce various Star Wars short films

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Disney continues their plans to ramp up their STAR WARS projects with news that Maker Studios will begin working on short films related to the George Lucas scifi saga. Maker Studios, which is owned by Disney, is best known for their YouTube videos such as Epic Rap Battles of History which garners over 30 million views on that channel alone.

Bloomberg reports that Disney wants Maker to create various films and videos on subjects ranging from fashion to STAR WARS related games. Maker Studios will be working on Disney animated projects as well as Marvel and Pixar related videos. Disney purchased Maker back in May for $500 million. A source claims that the company has already secured financial sponsors for projects.

Disney has said from the moment they acquired Lucasfilm and announced STAR WARS: EPISODE VII – THE FORCE AWAKENS that they would be broadening the scope of STAR WARS related projects beyond just the big screen. We have already seen a lot of new toys, mobile games, and appearances on other Disney series related to STAR WARS. Having a company like Maker push STAR WARS into the YouTube market with the ability to use official Lucasfilm media just means we are going to get more and more inundated with the galaxy far, far away.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII – THE FORCE AWAKENS opens in theaters on December 18, 2015.
