Duffer Bros. confirm Season three (and possibly four) of Stranger Things

With about two months to go until the second season of STRANGER THINGS is out fans are already speculating what horrible things could happen to this adorable band of youngsters. Though we have no earthly clue as to how the Upside Down will terrorize these whipper snaps we can now confirm that they will have to deal with the fallout for as many as two more seasons.

While speaking with Vulture the show’s creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, they mentioned how the idea of having season after season of these kids dealing with nightmarish horrors is not as sustainable as we think, and that the adventures of these kids will probably extend to a max of four seasons:

Ross: “We’re thinking it will be a four-season thing and then out…
Matt: “I don’t know if we can justify something bad happening to them once a year.”

However, the final chapter of the story will be undoubtedly crazy:

Ross: “They’re going to have to get the [email protected] out of this town! It’s ridiculous!”

During the talk, they confirmed that season three is certainly a go, but the fourth is not yet official. The show was a massive hit from the second the first season debuted last year, making stars out of the shows young cast, particularly Millie Bobby Brown, who plays the telekinetic Eleven on the show. Kids running away from horrific things must be a plus for audiences, as the second season of the show is one of the most highly anticipated TV events of the year.

A fourth season I likely in the bag for STRANGER THINGS, as the show’s popularity is at a peak and there’s little reason to think it will wane in the next year or so. The series could probably go on forever if The Duffer’s wanted, but it’s wise for them to think about it smaller terms so that they know exactly where to take the story and how to end it. Going on and on is just aimless and can make for some pretty dreary television in later seasons. If the show needs to end after four seasons, so be it. Lord knows we don't need to see Eleven learning how to drive or going to Prom.

STRANGER THINGS season two arrives on Netflix October 27.
