Extended Potter?

The most recent HARRY POTTER film, THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE, ran a pretty hefty 2 hours and 33 minutes long. Normally I think that’d be right at the maximum for a kid-friendly fantasy pic but apparently the HARRY POTTER films are about to get longer.

Rope of Silicon found a note in the latest MPAA bulletin that HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER’S STONE (EXTENDED VERSION) had been rated PG. Curious they got in touch with a rep from Warner Home Video who confirmed that not only will SORCERER’S STONE get the “extended” treatment but all of the POTTER films will be getting special extended releases in the future.

There seems to be some confusion online whether these will be theatrical or DVD releases. At this point, only a DVD release is confirmed though there is a possibility that WB could roll out an extremely limited release right around the time DEATHLY HOLLOWS is about to hit theaters. Also unconfirmed is exactly how much content is going into these “extended versions.” Is it something substantial or just an extra seven minutes? Stay tuned for more as the news develops…
