Fast & Furious 9 wraps filming

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

It absolutely floors me to think that a film that began with a bunch of criminals with fast cars stealing electronics, spawned a franchise whose latest iteration sported Dwayne Johnson throwing a torpedo. Yet the FAST & FURIOUS franchise is an unqualified financial success raking in over $5 billion at the global box office. The franchise even spawned a spin-off film with this past summer's HOBBS & SHAW. Sadly for fans, FAST & FURIOUS will soon come to an end as the tenth film is set to wrap up the series. However, the conclusion is still a few years away and in the meantime audiences still have the ninth movie to look forward to. Very early this morning director Justin Lin took to Twitter to announce that the aforementioned ninth film had wrapped production:

While most directors usually post a group picture with the cast or perhaps a selfie with the lead actor, Lin made the bold choice of a camera. But oh the things that camera has seen! If the details in the tweet are any indication, it appears as if Dominic, Letty, and the rest will be globe trotting again with some of the production taking place in Thailand.

Little is known about the film's plot at this time although it's probably safe to say that fast cars, guns, explosions, and multiple uses of the word "family" will abound. FAST & FURIOUS 9 will see the return of director Justin Lin to the franchise who helmed the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth films and helped inject new life into the franchise. FAST & FURIOUS maintained its momentum after Lin left, however his return is nothing less than the equivalent of adding NOS to an already lean, mean, racing machine.

FAST & FURIOUS 9 starring Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Helen Mirren, John Cena, Charlize Theron, and Michael Rooker races its way into theaters May 22, 2020.
