Howdy pardners! It took some doin', but it sounds as if HBO FIlms' DEADWOOD movie is set for a Friday, May 31 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT) debut. Hoo-wee!
Based on David Milch’s acclaimed Western drama, the upcoming film will reunite the show's characters after a decade to celebrate South Dakota’s statehood. In fact, accordin' to the project's official press release, former rivalries will be reignited, alliances are set to be tested and old wounds will open once more as all are left to navigate the inevitable changes that modernity and time have wrought.
Returning cast members include: Ian McShane, Timothy Olyphant, Molly Parker, Paula Malcomson, John Hawkes, Anna Gunn, Dayton Callie, Brad Dourif, Robin Weigert, William Sanderson, Kim Dickens, Gerald McRaney, Sean Bridgers, W. Earl Brown and Keone Young, among others. The film will also feature new cast member in Jade Pettyjohn.
The upcoming DEADWOOD film will be executive produced by David Milch, Carolyn Strauss, Daniel Minahan, Gregg Fienberg, Scott Stephens, Ian McShane, Timothy Olyphant, and Regina Corrado. Meanwhile, Daniel Minahan is directing from a script penned by David Milch.
As one might suspect, the DEADWOOD movie will pick up after the events of the original 36-episode series. Back when the sun rose and set in DEADWOOD's pants, the gritty Western drama was nominted for 28 Primtime Emmy Awards, winning eight, including the award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for Walter Hill. AMERICAN GODS and JOHN WICK franchise actor Ian McShane also hogtied himself a Golden Globe Award for Best Performer by an Actor in a Television Series. Them's some might fine accolades, I do declare.
