Here are the 20 films short-listed for the Oscars Visual Effects race

As awards season nears, it's time for us all to begin speculating wildly about who will receive a tiny gold statue when the 90th Academy Awards gets underway. It's a joyous time of the year for movie fans, without a doubt. As who does not enjoy cursing at their viewing device of choice when the movie you thought was "just okay" takes home the grand prize? It's an exercise for the soul, that's for certain.

Today, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed that they've selected 20 films to be shortlisted in the visual effects category. The films included on the list will then be evaluated and whittled down to a total of 10 when the moment arrives to officially announce this year's nominees.

The 20 films included on the above-mentioned list as as follows:

ALIEN: COVENANT

BLADE RUNNER 2049

DUNKIRK

GHOST IN THE SHELL

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2

JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE

JUSTICE LEAGUE

KONG: SKULL ISLAND

LIFE

LOGAN

OKJA

PIRATES OF THE CARIBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES

THE SHAPE OF WATER

SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI

THOR: RAGNAROK

VALERIAN AND THE CITY OF A THOUSAND PLANETS

WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES

WONDER WOMAN

Nominations for the 90th Oscars will be announced on January 23, 2018, with the ceremony to be held on March 4th, 2018 at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, California. The event will appear courtesy of ABC.

What do you think of the list? Do you feel as if any particular films have been snubbed? What are your predictions for the 10 films to be nominated? If I had to choose ten films from this list, I would select the following features to be up for consideration: BLADE RUNNER 2049, DUNKIRK, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2, KONG: SKULL ISLAND, THE SHAPE OF WATER, STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI (I'm assuming), THOR: RAGNAROK, VALERIAN AND THE CITY OF A THOUSAND PLANETS, WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES, and WONDER WOMAN.

If I were asked to select a winner, I feel that it would come down to either BLADE RUNNER 2049 or WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES, for me personally. Thankfully, we won't have to wait too long to find out if I'm right, or completely off-the-mark.

Let us know in the comments section below who you think should be nominated, and you believe should win.
