A batch of new photos from the set of Indiana Jones 5 has revealed that Toby Jones (Captain America: The First Avenger, The Mist) is joining the cast of James Mangold's highly-anticipated sequel. The photos shared via Twitter show Harrison Ford and Jones shooting a scene together. If you look closely, you can see small black dots on Ford's face, which leads me to believe that some digital de-aging tech is at play. Special thanks to reader James Dunbar from the UK for pointing this out!

Plot details are being kept under Indy's iconic fedora for the moment, though rumors suggest that the film could explore a 1960s space race theme. It's also been said that Mads Mikkelsen will star as the primary villain of the film. He'll be playing a former Nazi scientist hired by the U.S. government to assist NASA in being the first to reach the moon. Naturally, he'll be up to much more than that, and it'll be up to Indy to foil his dastardly plan.

In addition to Toby Jones joining the cast, Mangold himself recently reacted to an online post that presumes a whole lot about his unfinished film:

While Spielberg is sitting this one out as the film's director, fans can rest easy knowing it's in the hands of Logan director James Mangold. Spielberg will serve as a producer and will be involved in several elements of the new film. Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, and Simon Emanuel are also producing. Also returning is composer John Williams, who has arranged every score for the Indiana Jones franchise thus far.

Indiana Jones 5 will once again find Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role, and he'll be joined by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Toby Jones, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, and Shaunette Renée Wilson.

Indiana Jones 5 is expected to swing into theaters on July 29, 2022.
