Lucky Keri Russell getting the leading female role in DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, however, she has connections.

Director on the project, Matt Reeves has worked with Russell before on the WB show, FELICITY. Is that taking you back? The series ran from 1998 to 2002. Reeves was a co-creator alongside J.J. Abrams. That was a new one for me. I didn’t watch FELICITY though. That was when I was into DAWSON’S CREEK. Yeah, yeah say whatever you want. Though Abrams is not on this project, he and Russell worked again on 2006s MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 2.

Russell will join Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Kodi-Smit McPhee and Gary Oldman. No details were given on Russell’s character in the film. This is what we do know about the film: When it was revealed that Oldman was joining, it was said that he would be heading up the human colony. It is set fifteen years after the events of the first film with the scientists struggling to fight against Caesar while he continues to rule.

Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver returned to the franchise for scripting duties. DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES is set to release on May 23, 2014.
