Milla Jovovich is going to fight terrorists for director James McTeigue in Survivor

Milla Jovovich has been spending so much of her time shooting the undead that it comes a surprise when she takes a role that doesn't have the words RESIDENT EVIL in the title. The actress will be taking the lead role in James McTeigue's SURVIVOR alongside Pierce Brosnan, Emma Thompson, and Angela Bassett. With a cast that good, SURVIVOR has a much better chance than McTeigue's last film, THE RAVEN starring John Cusack.

SURVIVOR will put Jovovich in a role dominated by male actors such as Bruce Willis, Will Smith, Tom Cruise, and even Channing Tatum. Take a look at the synopsis for the film:

Jovovich plays a State Department employee newly posted to the American embassy in London, where she is charged with stopping terrorists from getting into the U.S. That puts her right in the line of fire and she is targeted for death and framed for crimes. Discredited, she is forced to go on the run while she tries to clear her name and stop a large-scale terrorist attack set for New Year’s Eve in Times Square.

Jovovich has been relegated to a b-level stardom because of the types of films she does, but she is a pretty good actress. Giving her the lead in an action movie that also requires some line delivery could end up surprising a lot of people. I would caution that McTeigue is a director who is more eye candy than depth, but I did enjoy V FOR VENDETTA which also benefited from having a talented cast of performers.

SURVIVOR comes from Millennium Films and will start shooting in London in January. Expect to see the movie hit theaters before the end of 2014.
