Netflix picks up Apostle from The Raid director Gareth Evans

Apostle Dan Stevens Gareth Evans Netflix

After the incredible bone-crushing action of THE RAID and THE RAID 2, Gareth Evans has more than earned my attention. Unfortunately it's been a bit of a wait for Evans' next project, a period revenge thriller by the name of APOSTLE, but, thanks to Deadline, we know where we'll be able to find it once it's released: Netflix.

The outlet reports that Netflix have picked up the global distribution rights to APOSTLE, which will be written and directed by Gareth Evans. The film follows "a man who travels to a remote island and attempts to rescue his sister after she’s kidnapped by a religious cult. The group demands a ransom for the sister’s return, undermining the man’s resolve to rescue her." It was announced last year that Dan Stevens (THE GUEST) would star in the film, and Deadline's report adds that he will be joined by Michael Sheen (PASSENGERS), Lucy Boynton (SING STREET), Bill Millner (X-MEN: FIRST CLASS) and Kristine Froseth (Let the Right One In).

Gareth Evans has been heavily involved in set-construction and camera tests over the past few weeks and it's expected that principal photography on APOSTLE will get underway in April. I'm absolutely pumped to see what Evans will be presenting us with in APOSTLE, and, as much as I'd love to see another sequel to THE RAID, I'd glad that he's tackling a different project first.
