The second phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will come to a close this summer with ANT-MAN, but as you already know, Marvel is hard at work getting things ready for their phase 3 slate of movies. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige provided updates on Marvel’s Phase 3 films while speaking with MTV, but first he was asked if the rumors about Captain Marvel appearing in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON were ever true.

In an early draft of the script, yes. We didn’t want to introduce her fully-formed flying in a costume before you got to know who she was and how she came to be.

Kevin Feige says it’s still in the early days of finding an actress to play Captain Marvel, and Marvel is “very close” to finding writers for the project. In a separate interview with Slash Film (where Feige also revealed that casting is underway for BLACK PANTHER), Feige said CAPTAIN MARVEL screenwriters will be announced in the next week or two.

Miles Morales Spider-Man

Feige goes on to say Marvel and Sony weren’t ever seriously considered the Miles Morales version of Spider-Man for the MCU (“No, I mean we always felt it should be Peter [Parker] because we’ve never seen the MCU version of Peter Parker. We felt like we needed to see that first. Miles, I think is awesome. I think there are opportunities for him for sure if this all works.”), and Peter Parker could potentially be played by a non-white actor.

Maybe. The field is very wide right now in terms of who we’re looking at — within a certain age range.

Feige was asked if CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR will feel like a Captain America sequel or an Avengers sequel, and he says “both, but Cap is still the primary focus.” Feige also says he hasn’t discussed what Doctor Strange’s accent will be yet with star Benedict Cumberbatch, and the production team “just finished scouting in New York City, for certain buildings that Doctor Strange inhabits.”

Tom Hiddleston Loki

“Writers are writing” for THOR: RAGNAROK, according to Kevin Feige, and he says Tom Hiddleston‘s Loki will have an “integral role” in the THOR: THE DARK WORLD sequel. Feige also explained the decision to split AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR into two films.

It’s early days to talk about anything specifically, but I will say the intention of that is to do two, distinct stand-alone movies, as we do all the time. But because they [have] such shared elements, it felt appropriate. And we hadn’t done it before! So it felt appropriate to do subgroupings like that. But I wouldn’t call it one story that’s cut in half. I would say it’s going to be two distinct movies.

And finally, Feige was asked if Marvel already has plans for their phase 4 films:

No, we always talk about things. In brainstorming sessions, which is where we spend the majority of our time, things come up and we joke, ‘Oh, that’s Phase 7.’ But we used to joke about Phase 2 and Phase 3, so who knows? We set a plan, we put our heads down, and we try to make it happen.

A teaser for an upcoming ANT-MAN trailer has been released, and the full trailer is expected to debut sometime today. What are your thoughts on this quick, new look at the Peyton Reed film?

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON opens on May 1, 2015, and ANT-MAN will be in theaters on July 17, 2015.
