Tarsem Singh wants to do a Samurai Jack movie

“I start with a good visual, and see if the story will fall in.”

That’s a direct quote from Tarsem Singh, director of IMMORTALS, and an explanation for why that movie was the way it was. If you’ve seen some of his other films like THE CELL and THE FALL, it stands pretty true as well, and though the man has his distinct visuals down, his stories could use a bit of polish.

But after IMMORTALS, what’s he up to next? Speaking to THR he expressed a lot of interest in doing a Samurai Jack movie based on the animated series that follows a samurai banished to a dystopian future that earned a few emmys during its three season run.

“I love Samurai Jack. I would love to direct that. It’s brilliant. The speed, it embraces where it comes from. I find that comic strip films are halfway grounded. They don’t play my chord. But I love Samurai Jack. I love the animation.”

But he then goes on to say that he wants to do a DINNER WITH ANDRE type picture next, something with “talking heads” to make people understand that he doesn’t have to just be that “visuals” guy. We’ll see what he ends up doing first.
