Terry Moore's Strangers in Paradise comic series headed for the big screen

Pffft, and here I thought that the first-look images of David Harbour as Hellboy was going to be the coolest bit of news that I'd report on today. As it turns out, there's something even more exciting (for me at least) going down, as it's been announced that PROFESSOR MARSTON AND THE WONDER WOMAN director Angela Robinson is teaming up with comic book creator Terry Moore to adapt his long-running graphic novel STRANGERS IN PARADISE for the silver screen!

Moore's award-winning series is presented as a romantic comedy-of-errors that follows Katchoo, a young woman in love with her best friend, Francine. When Katchoo meets David, a young man determined to win her affections, she finds herself thrown into a love triangle between the two suitors. Things only get more complicated when Katchoo's former employer comes looking for her and $850,000 in missing mob cash.

In talking about her overwhelming enthusiasm for the project, Robinson said “I’ve been wanting to adapt Strangers in Paradise for over a decade, since the first time I read it and couldn’t put it down. Terry Moore writes real female characters with such breathtaking sensitivity. With Strangers in Paradise he pulls off the nearly impossible — a sexy, stylish crime story with tons of heart. I look forward to our collaboration!”

As a hardcore fan of Moore's work (I own everything the man and his lovely wife, Robin, have published throughout the years), I cannot express how stoked I am about this news. STRANGERS IN PARADISE was first published in January of 1993, and had received an Eisner Award for best serialized story in 1996 as well as the GLAAD Award for best comic book in 2001 for the project's outstanding excellence. It's also worth noting that STRANGER IN PARADISE has been a labor of love for Moore, as he has written and drawn every single issue of the series from the very beginning.

Recently, the celebrated creator stated that “Angela and I have known each other for years and I greatly admire her creative vision. From day one our common goal was to bring Strangers in Paradise to the screen. It’s a complex story that took years to write and Angela gets it on every level. I can’t wait to get started!”

I'm freaking out, you guys! All we need now if for a Rachel Rising television series to be announced and then all will be well. On a more personal note, Terry and his wife Robin are two of the finest folks I've ever meet in the comics industry. Their booth is always a safe-haven for me whenever I attend a con, and their combined warmth as a power-couple in comics is inspiring to say the least. Bring on STRANGERS IN PARADISE!

Extra Tidbit: After Strangers in Paradise and Rachel Rising, there should totally be an adaptation of Moore's other book, MOTOR GIRL. Just make them all! All of them, I say!
