The brilliant teaser for Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland is finally here

The art of the movie teaser has been lost in recent years, with a few select films truly achieving the goal of teasing an audience with fleeting glimpses of the film, just enough to excite them and make them anticipate what the movie could be for months to come. TOMORROWLAND has achieved such a feat with this beautiful, mysterious, and thrilling teaser.

Featuring a whole scene centered on newcomer Britt Robertson, the power of a single pin shows us a magical world. Fleeting glimpses of this alternate universe along with a voice-over from George Clooney promises a hell of a lot more to TOMORROWLAND than this brief teaser lets on.

Bound by a shared destiny, former boy-genius Frank (Clooney), jaded by disillusionment, and Casey (Britt Robertson), a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity, embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as “Tomorrowland.” What they must do there changes the world—and them—forever.

And that is it, nothing to truly explain what we are seeing, no look at the crux of the plot, and not a single shot of Hugh Laurie as the film’s villain. This is marketing the way it should be: a poster and trailer that tease you and yet reveal nothing. I don’t know about you, but Brad Bird, Damon Lindelof, and Jeff Jensen may just have something special for us. This is exactly what Disney should be making. Forget carbon copy franchises: this is the magic of the movies.

TOMORROWLAND opens in theaters on May 22, 2015.
