The Punisher and Spider-Man teamed up to get hired with some help from Thor

Nothing like heroes uniting to help each other out, am I right? Such was the case with The Punisher, Spider-Man, and Thor, who all teamed up to help each other get…cast. Of course, the only one already cast was Thor, as played by Chris Hemsworth, while both Jon Bernthal and Tom Holland were doing their bast to get into the Marvel club. Bernthal told NY Daily News that he and Holland made Marvel audition tapes together while working on the independent film PILGRIMAGE in Ireland.

“We were making tapes from Ireland in the process of getting him cast in Spider-Man and then he and I made a tape for The Punisher. During this independent movie that we did in Ireland we were constantly making tapes for Marvel — just acting together.”

Sounds like there's probably some ripe footage for blu-ray extras in the cards and Bernthal assured that the tapes were real and in the hands of the Marvel elite brass.

“These tapes definitely do exist, you can call Marvel and ask for it, but that’s like breaking into Fort Knox.”

But, that's not where this heroic tale ends. Holland ended up e-mailing his IN THE HEART OF THE SEA co-star and current big-screen God of Thunder, Chris Hemsworth, to put in a good word with the MARVELous powers that be in order to help secure his webs on the part of Spider-Man. Hemsworth, in true god-like fashion, obliged.

"I called the guys at Marvel when they were casting (Spider-Man) and I heard he was in the final handful of guys and said, 'Look for what it's worth you're not going to meet a harder working more appreciative kind of guy. I was so blown away by his sort of attitude and work ethic and how good he was. But then I said to Tom, 'I've told them that, so don't prove me wrong.'"

Pretty cool to see these guys working together to make things happen. While I phone call from Hemsworth is no guarantee, let alone two guys in Ireland making audition tapes to secure some life-changing roles, it's good to see some deserving talent work to nab these types of roles. It wasn't always the case that actors and actresses would actively pursue a comic book role, so it's a cool trend to see happening these days.

You can catch Tom Holland's freshman debut as Spider-Man in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR on May 6, 2016, while Jon Bernthal starts dishing out punishment in Daredevil: Season 2 starting March 18, 2016 on Netflix, and Chris Hemsworth wields his mighty hammer again in THOR: RAGNAROK, set to debut on November 3, 2017.
