The Russos address recent rumors of Silver Surfer appearing in Infinity War

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Back in February, reports began circulating that claimed Marvel was developing a new movie centered around the Silver Surfer. The studio said that not only is Y: The Last Man author Brian K. Vaughan writing the script, but that LEGION's Noah Hawley would be helming a Doctor Doom solo film as well. The dual-announcement took the Marvel fandom by surprise to say the least, though not much stock was placed in the likelihood of either project coming to fruition. Now, after a recent rumor began circulating that the Silver Surfer would indeed be showing up in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, the Russo Bros. have come forward to set the record straight on Norrin Radd's inclusion in the MCU.

"I don’t think we own Silver Surfer," Joe admitted during an interview with Yahoo!"But it’s fan-wish fulfillment and, you know, if this Disney-Fox deal goes through there’s going to be a lot more characters coming into the Marvel universe, so some of those crazy fan theories might come true." Wish fulfillment indeed. I personally know that I would be 100% down for being introduced to an MCU-style Silver Surfer, as I'm sure that many other fans of the character would be as well. Also, it's not entirely out of the question. Let's think about this for a second. We already know that Kevin Feige is interested in absorbing the Silver Surfer (and Galactus with him) on account of that he once offered Fox the opportunity to keep Daredevil in exchange for both the planet eater and his T-1000-looking herald. Unfortunately, Fox denied the deal, a move that upset people all over the known galaxy.

Despite the Russos saying that Silver Surfer will not appear in their new film, they would like to remind fans that scores of incredible characters are still on their way to the MCU. "We look at the poster and think ‘who’s left?’ I don’t know who we didn’t get," Joe remarked, to which Anthony then revealed the following about the process used for putting the biggest Marvel movie in history together:

"It’s hard to second guess, you know, part of the beauty of these movies is that there are so many different directions that you can go. There are so many different choices you can make and I think that’s part of the fun of the process for Joe and I, in those early days, feeling out where we want to go with the movie, sitting with Marcus and McFeely and the writers, talking through all the possibilities, and once you centre on a road, just running with it. I don’t think we have any regrets about the choices we’ve made I think we’re very happy with it, but yeah, the material is infinitely malleable."

Don't worry Silver Surfer fans, I'm sure that Norrin will ride the big screen again, sometime down the line. After all, there's no way that this MCU train keeps chugging, for the next several years, without us being introduced the weilder of the power cosmic. Hell, if we don't meet Norrin within the next decade, I'll eat my hat. That's right, you can screencap this and hold me to it, if you like.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR will arrive in theaters on April 27th! Be sure to buy your tickets in advance, my friends, because the spoilers will be real, and they will rain down in abundance. Tread softly and carry a big filter on your social media.
