Vince Vaughn to produce a Brady Bunch reboot for CBS

Here’s the story. (Sorry, I had to do it!)

Vince Vaughn is certainly busy these days. Within the last two weeks, his Wild West Picture Show production company has begun work on various projects that he will both star and/or produce. But, this latest project looks like it actually had him as the idea man.

Vaughn and writer Mike Mariano (MY NAME IS EARL, RAISING HOPE) have teamed up with Lloyd Schwartz, son of BRADY BUNCH creator Sherwood Schwartz, for a modernized reboot/sequel to the classic BRADY BUNCH series.

According to Deadline, THE BRADY BUNCH reboot will follow a divorced Bobby Brady, with children of his own, who is remarried to a woman who also has kids, and together they also share a child. In addition, their ex-spouses are still part of their lives. The changes in the premiere reflect the evolution of family dynamics over the past four decades. Back in 1969, Schwartz wanted Carol to be a divorcée but the network refused, so the end of her first marriage was never addressed.

The series will be multi-camera (that means it will have a laugh track) just like the original series. CBS has not aired a family style sitcom like this since EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND and this will be another high profile reboot for the network. They also air HAWAII FIVE-O.

THE BRADY BUNCH was a very goofy show that was well ahead of it’s time by showcasing a blended family. In a contemporary setting, the show will not appear quite as unique as it did fifty years ago. But, seeing as this idea was hatched by Vaughn, one could hope there will be a little more to it than meets the eye.

No word on when THE BRADY BUNCH may hit the airwaves, but it would not be until at least the fall season of 2013.
