Warner Bros. announces DC Universe streaming service

Everybody gets a streaming service. It's like...a basic human right at this point. Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are getting into the game by announcing DC Universe, which they describe as a "first-of-its kind, immersive digital experience designed just for DC fans. One of the many incredible things your membership will include is unlimited access to the following exclusive original series." Which exclusive series are those? Well, you can take a gander at the official titles of three of them below: Titans, Harley Quinn, and Young Justice: Outsiders.

You can sign up at the official DC Universe site for further updates, but we'll be sure to keep you updated on anything interesting. First thing, and the one I'm the most excited about, is that James Wan (AQUAMAN) is set to executive produce a Swamp Thing live-action series for DC Universe. THR reports that Swamp Thing has received a script-to-series order, which means that if the script comes in well, the show will be picked up straight-to-series. Mark Verheiden (Battlestar Galactica) and Gary Dauberman (IT) will co-write the Swamp Thing script as well as serve as show-runners should it be picked up.

Following CDC researcher Abby Arcane as she returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, the series will find Arcane investigating a deadly swamp-borne virus. "There, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all." Sounds like fun. In addition to Swamp Thing, Titans, Young Justice: Outsiders, and Harley Quinn, another DC Universe series will be Metropolis, a live-action drama set in the so-called City of Tomorrow before the arrival of Superman. The series will follow Lois Lane and Lex Luthor as they investigate the world of fringe science and expose the city’s dark and bizarre secrets.

It's expected the DC Universe will launch in 2019.
