If you're one of those twisted individuals who delighted in watching Tom Cruise die, repeatedly, in Doug Liman's 2014 action sci-fi spectacle, EDGE OF TOMORROW, you might want to lock the door for some "private time." It's been reported by Deadline Hollywood that Warner Bros. is making good on their promise to develop a sequel, with the intention of landing Liman, Cruise, and Emily Blunt for the anticipated endeavor.

Based on the Hiroshi Sakurazaka Japanese graphic novel All You Need Is Kill, Cruise played Cage in Liman's original film, an inexperienced public relations officer who after being brought to the front lines of a war against an alien race, finds himself caught in a time loop that resurrects him each time he is killed in battle. Under the tutelage of Rita (Blunt), a Special Forces soldier, Cage trains to become the warrior his people need to survive ... even if that means dying an innumerable amount of times in the process.

Liman's film grossed $370 million worldwide during the time of its release, and was a major hit among fans and critics alike.

If you're experiencing a sensation of deja vu right now, that's probably because the idea of developing a sequel to EDGE OF TOMORROW has been kicking around since 2016, when writers Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse were tapped for the project. Obviously, the previous attempt to resurrect the property was not caught in the same time loop as Cage, and stalled out.

Producing the sequel will be Erwin Stoff, Tom Lassally, and Masi Oka, with Hisashi Sasaki acting as executive producer.

For the moment, Warner Bros. is drawing up deals to land Cruise and Blunt once more, though neither is expected to sign on until a worth while script can be presented. With that being said, Liman is in charge of writing, and hey, it worked once before, right?
