Will Bruce Campbell be returning for the Evil Dead remake?

There weren’t many fans who were excited about the prospects of an EVIL DEAD remake, even if it is produced by Sam Raimi. And then came the recent news that Diablo Cody would be writing the script and fans got even more incensed (I’m not particular fan of her work either but you can’t argue her fondness for the material or the genre and I’ll respect that passion). But long time EVIL DEAD fans may have something to look forward to: the return of Bruce Campbell.

Spanish website El Pais (via Badass Digest) spoke to Campbell himself who seemingly spilled some beans. They’re article says that the basic story will stay the same but with new characters. “The only recognizable face is part of Bruce Campbell, but will be in a cameo towards the end of the film,” says the Google Translate-d interview.

I’m not sure if Campbell would be playing Ash or simply just a wink-y nod to Campbell’s legacy with the film. It also seems weird that Campbell would ruin a surprise cameo at the end of the film but maybe that’s part of the plan to convince angry fans the remake isn’t all that bad. What do you think?
