NCIS: Hawaii & FBI: International earn full-season orders at CBS

NCIS: Hawaii, FBI: International, CBS, full season order

CBS becomes the first network to hand out full-season orders this fall season as they have put in back orders for NCIS: Hawaii and FBI: International.

CBS has touted both series as breakout successes this season and they point to the overall power of procedural series across all networks. On CBS alone, they have three versions of NCIS, three FBI’s and if you look at other networks, NBC has the Chicago trilogy while Fox has two 9-1-1 series. Procedural shows typically have performed the best on network TV and that’s why the networks strive to find more of them.

The exact episode count for NCIS: Hawaii and FBI: International is still being finalized because networks are being more flexible about order sizes. Typically shows like these are picked up for 12-13 episodes and if they receive a full-season order, nine more episodes are added. The network landscape television has changed a lot over the years and not most aren’t tied down to huge episode orders because they can be ratings erosion if they run too long.

Both NCIS: Hawaii and FBI: International are supported by strong lead-ins as they follow the mothership series of their franchises, NCIS, and FBI, respectively. NCIS: Hawaii and FBI: International rank as the No.1 and No.2 most-watched new series among total viewers in most current Nielsen ratings, averaging 8.05 million and 7.88 million viewers week to week, per “Deadline.” Kelly Kahl, President, CBS Entertainment, had this to say about the full season orders:

“These two terrific new dramas are off to a tremendous start. They have significantly strengthened and improved our lineup on their respective nights and are generating huge increases on our streaming platforms as well. We applaud the talented producers, writers, and casts on their compelling storytelling and performances, which are clearly resonating with viewers.”

On NCIS: Hawaii, the first female special agent in charge of NCIS Pearl Harbor, Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey), has thrived and risen through the ranks by equal parts confidence and strategy in a system that has pushed back on her every step of the way. Together with her unwavering team of specialists, they balance duty to family and country while investigating high-stakes crimes involving military personnel, national security, and the mysteries of the sun-drenched island paradise itself. The series stars Vanessa Lachey, Alex Tarrant, Noah Mills, Yasmine Al-Bustami, Jason Antoon, Tori Anderson, and Kian Talan.

FBI: International follows the elite operatives of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s International Fly Team. Headquartered in Budapest, they travel the world with the mission of tracking and neutralizing threats against American citizens wherever they may be, relying on intelligence, quick thinking, and pure brawn as they put their lives on the line to protect the U.S. and its people. The series stars Luke Kleintank, Heida Reed, Carter Redwood, Vinessa Vidotto, and Christiane Paul.
