Netflix releases new trailer for Bill Nye Saves the World

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Who didn't grow up with BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY? I mean, you had to have at least one lazy teacher who would put on one of Nye's shows instead of dealing with awful children, or an alcoholic one who would put Nye on to come down from a hangover since they made the mistake of dealing with awful children.

As for me, I never hated the BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY show, but I also found it to be overly childish and immature for my tastes (but I was also a pretentious dick as a kid). I've grown much more respect for the show since then, as I realize now that it had an unenviable task of trying to be funny, kid-friendly, as well as condenscing pretty complex ideas into something even a dumbass kids could understand. It sometimes chose style over substance, but it at least made an attempt to do something good and worthwhile.

This brings us to Bill Nye's new Netflix talk show BILL NYE SAVES THE WORLD. According to Netflix:

Each episode will tackle a topic from a scientific point of view, dispelling myths, and refuting anti-scientific claims that may be espoused by politicians, religious leaders or titans of industry.

Well, I'm on board. Nye is an entertaining personality, and has been a recent fixture combating anti-vaxxers and Global Warming deniers on other news programs (many of them with "news" in quotes, but still).

Anyway, here's an announcement trailer that introduces us to all of Bill Nye's bow-tie wearing sidekicks:

I'm down. However, while I know Bill Nye says he wants to save the world, that maniacal laugh at the end makes me think he may be planning to take over the world instead, and play us for the fool. Well, I for one would welcome our bow-tied overlord.

BILL NYE SAVES THE WORLD will start sciencing up on Netflix Spring 2017.
